How it works

Convert each letter grade to grade points, multiply by course credits, add those quality points, then divide by total attempted credits.

GPA = Σ(grade points × credit hours) ÷ Σ(credit hours)

Worked example

An A in a 3-credit class, B+ in a 4-credit class, and A− in a 3-credit class gives (4.0×3 + 3.3×4 + 3.7×3) ÷ 10 = 3.63 GPA.

Before you rely on the number

Credit hours matter more than most students expect. One weak grade in a 4-credit course moves the GPA further than two weak grades in 1-credit courses.
For a term GPA, enter only that term’s courses. For a cumulative GPA, enter every graded course you have taken.
High school students taking honors, AP, or IB courses should use the high school GPA calculator, which adds the extra weighting.

Courses without grade points normally do not affect GPA, so leave them out unless your institution says otherwise.
